The family of a deceased 84-year-old former campaign worker for Harry Reid say Charlotte McCourt's last wishes were to see the Senate majority leader lose re-election.
"In lieu of flowers, vote for another more worthy candidate," reads the obituary that appeared in Tuesday's Las Vegas Journal-Review.
"We believe that Mom would say she was mortified to have taken a large role in the election of Harry Reid to U.S. Congress," reads the obituary. "Let the record show Charlotte was displeased with his work."
Before she died, McCourt, a member of the Mormon community to which Reid belongs, frequently complained that Reid abandoned his Nevada roots and the church's conservative values, her family told the newspaper on Wednesday. Mormons are 7.5 percent of Nevada's population but make up a disproportionate amount of the electoral vote in the state.
Reid is in a tough re-election bid with Republican Sharron Angle, but McCourt's family members said they don't know her record well enough to say whether they will support her.
