Rush: Obama Lied About GOP Tax Compromise

The Obama administration consistently lied about its efforts at compromise during the failed debt-ceiling negotiations, Rush Limbaugh said Monday, pointing to a Washington Post article that depicted President Barack Obama himself as the biggest obstacle to compromise.
The Post article published Sunday revealed that House Republicans, led by Speaker John Boehner and Majority Leader Eric Cantor, were more than willing to compromise, proposing $800 billion in new taxes. Obama’s rejection of the offer even shocked congressional Democrats such as House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi.
“What this story points out is that Obama purposefully, intentionally lied to the American people when he told us that the Republicans were not interested in raising taxes, that they wanted a cuts-only solution to the debt crisis,” Limbaugh said during his talk-radio show Monday.
“It turns out that John Boehner and Eric Cantor had indeed offered $800 billion in tax increases. Obama just lied. He just flat out lied to the American people about the Republicans and their position in the debt negotiations. Flat-out lied.”
Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid reluctantly went along with the administration against their initial instincts, the article revealed.
“This story paints Harry Reid and Pelosi as practically irrelevant,” declared Limbaugh. “Where everybody thinks they’re part of the problem, part of the obstacles, this story makes it clear they’re just up there to do Obama’s bidding. That Obama doesn’t know how to negotiate.
“This story points out that Obama’s incompetent when he negotiates because he lies. He told Boehner, he told the country that the Republicans were not willing to compromise in an area, and they were all along.”
Limbaugh said the problem boils down to President Obama and his focus on his re-election campaign instead of the issues at hand.
“Obama is the whole problem,” Limbaugh said. “Obama was campaigning. Obama had to give his base something. The whole debt-limit thing was a phony-baloney-plastic-banana-good-time-rock-n-roller-diversion. He wanted the debt ceiling raised but could not afford for his base, lunatic fringe base, to see him as compromising at all.
“He lied in a national address to the nation. He lied in a prime time address to the nation.”
There is also an issue of double standards within the Obama administration when it comes to civility, Limbaugh said.
During a press conference on March 6, a reporter asked Obama what he thought about Limbaugh’s apology to Georgetown University law student Sandra Fluke, whom Limbaugh called a “slut” and a “prostitute” over her fight for free contraceptives.
Obama said: “I don’t know what’s in Rush Limbaugh’s heart, so I’m not going to comment on the sincerity of his apology. What I can comment on is the fact that all decent folks can agree that the remarks that were made don’t have any place in the public discourse.”
Limbaugh said Obama’s comments are “pure hypocrisy” because of singer Cee-lo Green’s recent performance at an Obama fundraiser in Atlanta in which he cursed and gave the audience the middle finger.
During the fundraiser that was held at actor and director Tyler Perry’s house Friday, Cee-lo Green performed his hit song “F*** You” before Obama was supposed to make a speech.
“He showed up before Obama came out and spoke at this fundraiser, and dropped the F-bomb in his song while Mr. Civility [Obama] is backstage waiting to go on, I guess,” said Limbaugh. “This is getting nowhere near the attention it should get in the media. Mr. Civility, Barack Obama, is not being asked about this at all.
“Double standard. Single standard. Whatever. It’s hypocrisy. The point is it isn’t getting any press, nor is getting any condemnation.”
