Exclusive: RNC slams Obama campaign for Cory Booker 'cover-up'

The Republican National Committee will release this web video later today attacking the Obama campaign for claiming it did not reach out to Newark Mayor Cory Booker following his remarks on Meet The Press on Sunday.

"This entire episode demonstrates just how far the Obama campaign will go to punish Democrats who speak out on behalf of job creators and the free enterprise system," RNC chairman Reince Priebus said in a statement. "It’s sad to see the candidate of ‘Hope and Change’ descend into the president of dishonest attacks and dishonest cover-ups."

On Meet The Press, Booker criticized the Obama campaign's attacks against Mitt Romney's time at the private equity firm Bain Capital, calling them "nauseating." Hours later, he released a four-minute web video clarifying his remarks. When asked by CNN if the campaign had reached out to Booker in the interim period to "fix this," campaign press secretary Ben LaBolt said it had not. But, as reported earlier, Booker said on MSNBC last night that the campaign had reached out to him.

LaBolt clarified his CNN interview earlier today, telling me that it was a DNC official -- not a campaign official -- who reached out to Booker, and that no one from either the campaign or the DNC asked Booker to record his Sunday video.
